Is Minecraft Realms Down? How to Check (and What to Do)

If your Realm won't load, the first job is figuring out whether Realms itself is down or whether it's something on your end. This is a quick, no-nonsense checklist: how to confirm an outage, where Mojang and Microsoft post status, the fixes worth trying, and how to avoid the whole problem next time.

First: is it Realms, or is it you?

Before assuming an outage, rule out the easy stuff. Most "Realms is down" moments are actually local.

• Can you load any other online world or server? If nothing connects, it's probably your internet, not Realms.
• Are friends affected too? If your friends can play and you can't, the problem is on your side.
• Did you just update (or not update) the game? A version mismatch right after a patch is a very common cause.
• Java or Bedrock? They run on separate Realms systems, one can be down while the other is fine.

Where to check official Minecraft / Realms status

Don't guess from one Reddit post. Check the sources that actually report outages:

• Minecraft's official help and status channels, Mojang posts known service issues there first.
• The Minecraft and Mojang status accounts on social media, usually the fastest place a confirmed outage appears.
• Microsoft / Xbox Live status, Realms sign-in depends on Microsoft accounts, so an Xbox Live outage can take Realms down with it.
• A community outage tracker like Downdetector, good for spotting a spike of reports, but treat it as a rumour-meter, not proof.

If two or more of those line up, it's a real outage and the fix is simply to wait, there's nothing you can do from your side.

Quick fixes when it's actually your end

If the status pages are all green, work through these in order:

• Restart Minecraft completely, fully quit, don't just back out to the menu.
• Sign out and back into your Microsoft account, expired sign-in tokens are a frequent culprit.
• Update the game, and make sure everyone in the Realm is on a compatible version.
• Restart your router, a 30-second power cycle clears a surprising number of connection faults.
• Try mobile data or another network, if it works there, your home network or ISP is the issue.
• Check the Realm owner's subscription, a lapsed payment closes the Realm, which looks exactly like an outage.

Why Realms outages happen (and why they hit everyone at once)

Realms is a centralised service: huge numbers of worlds run on Mojang's shared infrastructure. That's great for simplicity, but it means a single platform incident, a bad deploy, an authentication problem, a Microsoft-account outage, can knock out a lot of people simultaneously. When it's a platform-wide event, no amount of router restarting helps. You wait for Mojang.
