Minecraft Bedrock 26.60: Ice Caves, Frostbites & 600+ Bug Fixes
What Changed
Released on 27 October 2026, Minecraft: Bedrock Edition 26.60 is a meaty update built around the first experimental preview of Drop 4 of 2026, a frosty underground expansion, paired with more than 600 bug fixes, 89 of which were reported directly by community members.
Ice Caves (Experimental)
A brand-new cave biome now lurks beneath cold Overworld biomes. Ice Caves are sculpted from Packed Ice and Calcite, lit only by glittering Ice Crystals (since Glow Lichen doesn't grow here), and decorated with dramatic Icicles hanging from the ceiling. Dirt and Granite stay away, this biome keeps things clean and cold. Ores still generate, so brave miners have a reason to venture in.
New Blocks
- Ice Crystals, the sole light source of Ice Caves; grow naturally on Packed Ice, can be placed in any direction, and shatter if their support block is removed. (A known issue means they're currently smaller than intended, a fix is coming.)
- Icicles, speleothem-style blocks similar to Dripstone. They grow up to five blocks long downward, break when exposed to light or placed in the Nether, and fall when light levels climb too high, dealing damage to anything caught underneath.
Freezing Effect (Experimental)
A new status effect that makes players shake, cuts their jump height, and eventually chips away at their health, much like standing in Powdered Snow for too long. Leather Armor prevents the frozen-stiff look but won't block the effect itself. Potions and Arrows of Freezing can be brewed and crafted using Ice Balls.
Frostbite Mob (Experimental)
Meet the Frostbite: a Zombie variant built for icy biomes. It closes in for melee strikes that apply the Freezing effect, or hangs back and hurls Ice Balls (4 damage each, with knockback) when the target is further away or it runs low on ammo. It stands on Powder Snow without sinking, is immune to its own Freezing effect, and drops Rotten Flesh and Ice Balls. Expose a regular Zombie or Husk to Powder Snow long enough and it transforms into one.
Other Notable Fixes
- Snow now correctly triggers vibrations when placed (good news for Sculk contraptions).
- Wool and Concrete blocks finally produce the right Note Block instrument sounds.
- Shelf Mushroom textures updated to match Java Edition.
- Lush Caves now generate correctly in very humid regions instead of being replaced by Dripstone or Sulfur Caves.
- Numerous accessibility improvements across Realms screens, narration, and contrast ratios.
Why It Matters
The Ice Cave biome is the centrepiece of Drop 4, still experimental, which means it must be toggled on in world settings. That's Mojang's way of letting the community test and shape the content before it locks in. The 600+ bug fixes show this isn't just a feature drop; stability and accessibility received serious attention, making 26.60 one of the more well-rounded Bedrock releases in recent memory.
Java and Bedrock
These Ice Cave features are Bedrock-exclusive experiments for now. Java Edition players haven't seen Ice Caves in a snapshot yet, so the two editions are on slightly different preview tracks for Drop 4. Bug fixes in this release are also Bedrock-specific; Java follows its own snapshot cycle.
For Server Owners
If you run a vanilla Bedrock server (BDS), updating to 26.60 is straightforward. The experimental Ice Cave toggle means your existing worlds won't change unless you deliberately enable the feature in a new or experimental world, a safe choice for communities that want stability. The 600+ bug fixes are automatic once you update, so it's well worth the upgrade for the improved reliability alone.
For Parents
The Frostbite is a new enemy that can freeze and hurt players, but it sits comfortably within the same family-friendly challenge level as existing hostile mobs like Zombies and Strays. Because it's behind an experimental toggle, your child won't encounter it unless the world is specifically set up to include it. The many accessibility improvements in this update, better screen narration, improved contrast, clearer captions, make the game more inclusive for all players.
For Players
Ready to explore the coldest caves in the game? Here's a quick survival guide for Ice Caves:
- Wear Leather Armor, it won't fully stop the Freezing effect, but it slows how quickly you become a block of ice.
- Watch the ceiling. Icicles fall when light levels rise, torches and lanterns can be your worst enemy down there.
- Don't ignore Ice Crystals. They're your only light source, and breaking them will plunge you into darkness fast.
- Keep your distance from Frostbites, let them use Ice Balls, which deal less damage, rather than closing in for those freezing melee hits.
- Brew Potions of Freezing using Ice Balls and turn the Frostbites' own weapon against other mobs!
Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?
No action is needed, and SNT kingdoms are not affected by this release. Our kingdoms run on Paper 1.21.11 (Java Edition) with Geyser+Floodgate handling Bedrock crossplay. Geyser translates between Java and Bedrock protocols, but Minecraft 26.x clients are not yet supported by PaperMC, Velocity, or the Via family of plugins, because the wider Java ecosystem hasn't migrated to Mojang's new year-based versioning scheme yet. This means players on Bedrock 26.60 cannot connect to SNT kingdoms at this time, they'll need to check back once the underlying tools catch up. Players on Java 1.13–1.21.11 and older Bedrock-compatible versions can connect just as normal. We're watching the ecosystem closely and will update kingdoms as soon as stable, compatible builds are available.
