Minecraft Beta & Preview 26.60.24, What's New for Players, Parents & Server Owners
What Changed
Minecraft Beta & Preview 26.60.24, released on 16 September 2026, is a Bedrock-focused work-in-progress build packed with quality-of-life fixes, accessibility improvements, and a wave of technical changes for add-on creators and editor users. A quick heads-up: due to unexpected build issues, this preview is not available on iOS or PlayStation this week, Xbox, Windows, and Android players are good to go.
- Crash fix: A world-breaking crash caused by densely connected blocks, fences, glass panes, iron bars, walls, has been squashed.
- Tamed baby mobs can now be healed by feeding them food when they are injured, just like adult tamed mobs.
- Armor Stands now correctly refuse invalid equipment swaps and handle direct item exchanges with players properly.
- Custom skin imports no longer reset to the default skin after restarting the game.
- Camera height while sleeping in a Straw Bed is fixed, no more clipping into the mattress.
- Fog and resource packs now correctly control fog start and end distance when the Ender Dragon is absent or far away.
- Minecart with Hopper textures display correctly in ray-traced graphics.
- Nintendo Switch wireless controllers can once again be used on the world selection screen after leaving a world.
- Performance: Noticeable stutter involving mobs and items across multiple play sessions has been reduced.
- Realms: Faster member search, a "Recommended" friends list, applied packs visible to all players, and several admin and UI fixes.
- Accessibility: Screen narration now pauses between bullet points in Realms Plan Picker; progress bars meet a 3:1 contrast ratio; multiple Settings panel narration labels are fixed.
- UI polish: Enchanting Table Arcana glyphs reappear in slots; the Gift button no longer shows for free or unobtainable items; legacy custom bitmap fonts (including The Ultimate Survival World) are readable again.
Why It Matters
The crash fix alone makes this update significant. Worlds with lots of fences, panes, or iron bars, basically every well-built survival base, were at risk of bringing the game down on load. That's now resolved. Beyond stability, the tamed baby mob healing change is a small but genuinely delightful quality-of-life win: kids who nurse a baby wolf back to health will no longer feel helpless watching it stay hurt. The reduction in session stutter is also welcome for anyone playing on modest hardware or older mobile devices.
On the technical side, this build tightens add-on schema validation and promotes several scripting APIs to stable, changes that ripple through the creator community and signal where Mojang is heading with the platform.
Java and Bedrock
This release is Bedrock only, there is no corresponding Java snapshot this week. Java Edition continues on its own separate release track. All fixes, gameplay changes, and technical updates listed here apply exclusively to Bedrock clients (Xbox, Windows, Android, and, when the build issues are resolved, iOS and PlayStation).
For Server Owners
If you run a Bedrock-compatible server with Geyser or a similar bridge, the scripting API promotions in this build are worth noting for any add-ons or plugins you rely on:
- Sound scripting APIs,
SoundInstance.setVolume, setPitch, fade, seekTo,pause, andresume, have moved from beta to stable in scripts version 2.11.0. If your server uses custom soundscapes or minigame audio cues, this is a green light to rely on them in production add-ons. - Entity JSON schemas for
minecraft:rideable,minecraft:dash_action,minecraft:rail_movement, andminecraft:scale_by_ageare now stricter from format version 1.26.60 onward. Any add-on packs using these components should be reviewed and updated. - Collision box component (
minecraft:collision_box) no longer accepts single-object format from v1.26.60, it must now be an array. Custom block packs will need a quick migration. - Mega tree trunk width now accepts integer ranges, giving map makers much more variety in procedural tree generation.
For Parents
Good news all around for families this update. The crash affecting complex player-built structures is fixed, so your child's carefully fenced farm or iron-bar cage is much less likely to cause a sudden game exit. Custom skins your child imported will now survive a game restart without vanishing, a small frustration that caused surprisingly big upset is now gone. Tamed baby animals can be healed with food, which makes the game feel kinder and more rewarding for younger players who love caring for their in-game pets. And the accessibility improvements, better screen narration, improved contrast on menus, make the game more comfortable for players who rely on those features.
As always, remember that beta and preview builds are works in progress and may contain bugs not present in the stable release. If your child's device is on the beta channel (Android Google Play) or Preview (Xbox/Windows), expect occasional rough edges.
For Players
Here are the highlights you'll actually feel while playing:
- Baby wolves, cats, and other tamed mobs can finally be healed by feeding them, no more watching your tiny pet suffer!
- Custom skins stay put after you close and reopen the game.
- Sleeping in a Straw Bed no longer puts your camera underground.
- Fog effects from resource packs work correctly in the End after the Dragon is defeated.
- Smoother gameplay, less stuttering when there are lots of mobs and items around.
- Switch players can use wireless controllers normally after returning to the world selection screen.
- Enchanting Table shows its mystical Arcana glyphs again.
If you spot anything weird, you can report bugs directly to bugs.mojang.com, the team genuinely reads those reports!
Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?
No action needed, and SNT kingdoms are not affected by this release. SNT Gaming kingdoms run on Paper 1.21.11 (Java) backends behind a Velocity proxy, with Geyser + Floodgate handling Bedrock crossplay. Bedrock client version 26.60.24 is a beta build, and MC 26.x clients are not yet supported on the SNT stack, PaperMC, Velocity, and the Via suite have not yet migrated to Mojang's year-based versioning scheme.
Bedrock players connecting to your kingdom should stay on the stable Bedrock release rather than opting into the beta or preview channel, as 26.x builds will not successfully connect. Java players on profiles 1.13 through 1.21.11 continue to connect without any issues via ViaVersion and ViaBackwards. SNT monitors upstream projects closely and will communicate any version migration well in advance.
