Minecraft Java 26.4 Snapshot 7: Calcite Blockset, "Flurry" Music Disc & Accessibility Leap
What Changed
Snapshot 7 of the 26.4 series is officially the last stop for new gameplay content before the upcoming game drop lands. It packs in a surprising amount: a whole new decorative block family, a fresh music disc, meaningful quality-of-life tweaks, and the biggest accessibility upgrade crafting screens have ever seen.
The Calcite Blockset
Calcite, previously just a lonely decorative block found near amethyst geodes, has been given a full builder's toolkit:
- Calcite Pillar, Slab, Stair, and Wall, all cuttable in a Stonecutter.
- Polished Calcite, craft four Calcite blocks in a 2ร2 grid, then cut or craft slabs, stairs, and walls from it.
- Polished Calcite Bricks, one step further: four Polished Calcite in a 2ร2, with its own slab, stair, and wall variants via Stonecutter.
- All three tiers belong to the Slow Bouncy Sulfur Cube archetype, giving them shared physics and bounce behaviour.
A mysterious new decorative block has also been hidden somewhere in the world, consider it a treasure hunt from the developers.
"Flurry" by Hyper Potions
A new music disc joins the collection. The track "Flurry", produced by Hyper Potions, can be discovered in Igloo basement chests and outputs a comparator signal of 7 when played in a Jukebox, handy for redstone contraptions.
Other Notable Changes
- Fire now counters the Freezing effect, working just like leather armour does.
- Wearing any piece of leather armour stops Zombies and Skeletons from converting into Frostbites or Strays.
- Strays now spawn in Deep Frozen Ocean, Frozen Ocean, Frozen Peaks, Frozen River, Jagged Peaks, and Snowy Slopes biomes.
- The Graphics API "Default" setting will now randomly choose between OpenGL and Vulkan on each launch, a temporary measure while the team gathers testing data on both rendering backends.
- The main menu background panorama has been refreshed.
- Several UI polish fixes landed for Realms menus, list navigation, and keyboard/arrow-key focus behaviour.
Accessibility: Keyboard Navigation for Gameplay Screens
This is the headline feature for many players. Crafting tables, furnaces, looms, enchanting tables, trading menus, and more can now be fully navigated with a keyboard:
- Tab moves between slot groups; arrow keys move between individual slots.
- Enter/Space acts as a left-click; Shift+Enter/Space shift-clicks; Ctrl+Enter/Space right-clicks.
- Dragging a stack across slots by holding Enter/Space while moving replicates mouse-drag distribution.
- The narrator reads out slot contents, item tooltips, special slot names, and even position within a grid, a first for Minecraft's in-game screens.
Why It Matters
Mojang calling this the final gameplay feature snapshot means the full release of the 26.4 game drop is approaching fast. For builders, the Calcite blockset triples the palette of a material that was previously almost decoration-only. For the community at large, the keyboard navigation overhaul is a landmark accessibility step, it means players who rely on keyboards rather than a mouse can participate fully in core crafting gameplay for the first time.
Java and Bedrock
This snapshot is Java Edition only. Bedrock Edition follows its own release schedule and does not receive Java snapshots. Bedrock players should keep an eye on official Minecraft channels for their own upcoming drop previews. The Calcite blockset and "Flurry" disc may arrive on Bedrock at a later date as part of parity updates.
For Server Owners
Two technical version bumps are worth noting if you manage custom servers:
- Data Pack version is now 126.0, packs targeting older versions may need a compatibility check before the full release.
- Resource Pack version is now 102.0, several icicle textures have been renamed (e.g.
icicle_down_base.pngโicicle_base.png), and new calcite and music disc textures have been added. Any custom resource packs referencing those icicle files will break until updated. - The
effectcommand now accepts mob effect tags, opening up more flexible command-block and datapack designs. - Debug Worlds have been significantly reworked, they are now tick-frozen on load, support normal block placement, and spawn one of every entity type.
For Parents
The headline here is the new keyboard accessibility system. If your child uses a keyboard rather than a mouse, or benefits from screen narration, Minecraft's crafting and trading menus are now dramatically easier to use without a mouse. This is an ongoing project, the Creative Inventory and Recipe Book are next on the list. Beyond accessibility, the new Calcite blocks give creative-minded kids a beautiful white stone palette to build with, and the "Flurry" disc gives music lovers a new reason to explore Igloo basements on their next winter adventure.
For Players
Builders, this one's for you! Polished Calcite Bricks look stunning, think clean white castle walls, modern builds, or snowy temples. Here's your quick crafting cheat-sheet:
- Mine Calcite (found near amethyst geodes) โ craft or stonecutting for Pillars, Slabs, Stairs, and Walls.
- Arrange 4 Calcite in a 2ร2 โ Polished Calcite, then stonecutting for more shapes.
- Arrange 4 Polished Calcite in a 2ร2 โ Polished Calcite Bricks, then stonecutting for even more shapes.
Also, head to an Igloo basement and raid the chest for a chance at the "Flurry" disc. Pop it in a Jukebox and enjoy some seriously cool tunes while you build!
Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?
No action needed, and SNT kingdoms cannot connect to 26.x clients yet. Here's the full picture:
SNT Gaming kingdoms run on Paper 1.21.11 backends with a Fabric 1.21.4 backend for the SharedLife world, fronted by a Velocity proxy. Client compatibility stretches from version 1.13 all the way to 1.21.11 via ViaVersion, ViaBackwards, and ViaRewind. However, Mojang's year-based versioning (26.x) is a new format that PaperMC, Velocity, and the Via projects have not yet migrated to support. This means players running the 26.4 snapshot client cannot connect to SNT kingdoms at this time.
The good news: everything in this snapshot, Calcite blocks, the Flurry disc, the new biome spawns, will be fully available on SNT kingdoms once the stable release lands and the supporting software catches up. We monitor every update closely and will upgrade kingdoms as soon as it is safe and stable to do so. As always, your world data, settings, and progress are fully managed, you don't need to do a thing.
