Move the sliders to your child's group. We'll estimate the honest monthly and yearly cost of the three real options, Realms, running it yourself, and a managed private server, so you can pick on facts, not marketing. No sign-up, nothing saved.
Prices change and vary by region, always confirm Realms' current price on Mojang's own site. VPS cost scales with players (more players need more RAM).

Minecraft Realms, Mojang runs a small vanilla world for a handful of friends. Cheapest in pure euros and the safest defaults, but it caps how many can play at once, keeps Java and Bedrock separate, and won't let you install custom modes. Great for a small vanilla group.
Self-hosting (VPS or your own PC), Total freedom and cheap hardware, but the real price is your time: setup, updates, port-forwarding, crashes, backups and security are all on you, and a home PC is offline whenever it's off.
A managed private server (what we do), one flat price, kept online for you, with custom modes, Java + Bedrock crossplay and a friends-only whitelist a parent controls. Costs more than bare Realms; the difference buys the modes, the crossplay and never touching a settings file. Read the full Realms vs private server comparison or our Minecraft hosting guide.
