Minecraft Java Snapshot 26.3-3: What's New & What It Means for Your Kingdom

What Changed

On 7 July 2026, Mojang pushed snapshot 26.3-3, the third snapshot in the 26.3 development cycle of Minecraft: Java Edition. This is an early, experimental build released directly to the Minecraft Launcher for players who opt into snapshots. Because this entry comes from Mojang's version manifest rather than a dedicated changelog article, the full list of internal tweaks hasn't been publicly detailed yet. That said, every snapshot in the 26.x line continues Mojang's shift to a year-based version numbering system (26 = 2026), marking a significant change in how Java Edition versions are identified going forward.

As more changelog details surface, we'll update this post, but here's everything you need to know right now based on what we do know about the 26.3 snapshot series.

Why It Matters

Snapshots like this one are Mojang's way of testing new features, bug fixes, and under-the-hood engine changes before they land in a full release. The 26.x series in particular carries extra weight because the new year-based versioning breaks compatibility with many of the tools the wider server community depends on, things like proxy software, plugin APIs, and compatibility layers. Each new snapshot in this line is another step toward a stable release, but also another reminder that the ecosystem needs time to catch up.

Java and Bedrock

This snapshot is Java Edition only. Bedrock Edition follows its own separate release track (Preview builds on console, mobile, and PC) and is not affected by this snapshot. If your kids play on Bedrock, for example through a mobile device or console, this particular update doesn't touch their game at all. The two editions share a lot of gameplay, but their codebases and update schedules are completely independent.

For Server Owners

If you run your own Minecraft server, here's the honest picture: do not update your production server to snapshot 26.3-3. Snapshots are unstable by design. Beyond that, the core server software the community relies on, PaperMC, Velocity, and the Via family (ViaVersion, ViaBackwards, ViaRewind), has not yet migrated to Mojang's new year-based version scheme. Running a 26.x snapshot on a production server would mean losing plugin support, proxy compatibility, and crossplay functionality all at once. Wait for the full release and for the supporting ecosystem to catch up before considering any migration.

For Parents

Your child may have seen "new snapshot!" headlines and asked to update. Here's what to tell them: snapshots are test versions, a bit like a rough draft before the finished book. They can have bugs, crashes, and missing features. Unless your child specifically wants to experiment with pre-release content (and you're comfortable with the odd glitch), it's best to stay on the regular release version. If your family plays on an SNT Gaming kingdom, there's nothing you need to do, everything is managed for you, and we only move to stable, well-supported versions.

For Players

Snapshots are actually really cool to explore if you're curious about what's coming next to Minecraft! Here's how to try it safely:

Think of it as a sneak peek behind the scenes at Mojang's work in progress. Just don't use it as your main game!

Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?

No action needed, and no update is possible yet. SNT Gaming kingdoms run on Paper 1.21.11 backends with a Velocity proxy, plus a Fabric 1.21.4 backend for the SharedLife world. Crossplay for Bedrock players is handled by Geyser + Floodgate, and older Java clients (all the way back to 1.13) connect seamlessly thanks to ViaVersion, ViaBackwards, and ViaRewind.

Critically, Minecraft 26.x clients are not yet supported on SNT kingdoms. PaperMC, Velocity, and the Via suite have not yet migrated to Mojang's new year-based versioning system, so there is no safe or stable path to 26.x compatibility right now. If you log into your kingdom with a 26.x client profile, the connection will not be supported, stick to version 1.21.11 or earlier for the best experience across all six of your kingdom's worlds.

We're watching the ecosystem closely and will update kingdoms as soon as the full toolchain, Paper, Velocity, and Via, reaches stable 26.x support. As always, updates happen automatically and silently on SNT kingdoms, so you'll never need to do a thing.
