Minecraft Java Snapshot 26.2-rc-2 Is Out, What It Means for Your Kingdom

By SNT Gaming · 2026-06-13 · updatesjavasnapshotreleaseparentstechnical

What Changed

On 12 June 2026, Mojang published Minecraft: Java Edition 26.2-rc-2, a Release Candidate build, meaning it is one of the final polishing steps before a full public release lands in the launcher. Mojang has moved to a year-based versioning scheme (hence "26.x"), so this snapshot sits inside the 2026 release cycle rather than the familiar 1.x numbering most players know.

Mojang has not attached a public changelog to the version manifest entry for this specific build. Release Candidates at this stage typically carry targeted bug fixes and stability improvements rather than showy new features, the heavy lifting was done in earlier snapshots. Think of rc-2 as Mojang tightening the last few bolts before the car leaves the factory floor.

Why It Matters

A second Release Candidate is a strong signal that a full 26.2 release is close. That matters for the whole Minecraft community for a few reasons:

Java and Bedrock

This build is Java Edition only. Bedrock Edition (the version on consoles, mobile, and Windows from the Microsoft Store) follows its own separate release track and is unaffected by this snapshot. Families whose children play on phones or tablets can take a breath, nothing changes on Bedrock today.

For Java players, the snapshot is available through the official Minecraft Launcher by enabling "Snapshots" in the Installations tab. As always, Mojang recommends keeping snapshot worlds separate from your main survival saves.

For Server Owners

If you run your own vanilla or modded Java server independently, here is the honest picture:

For Parents

Your child may come to you excited (or confused) about "snapshot 26.2-rc-2." Here is what you actually need to know:

For Players

Hey explorers! 👋 So, 26.2-rc-2 just dropped, pretty exciting if you like being on the cutting edge. A Release Candidate means the full version is getting really close. You can try it in the Minecraft Launcher (flip on Snapshots in your Installations), but keep these tips in mind:

Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?

No update is needed, and none is planned yet, your kingdom is running perfectly. Here is the full picture:

SNT Gaming kingdoms run Paper 1.21.11 backends behind a Velocity proxy, with a Fabric 1.21.4 backend powering the SharedLife world. Crossplay is handled by Geyser + Floodgate, and multi-version client support (1.13 through 1.21.11) comes courtesy of ViaVersion, ViaBackwards, and ViaRewind.

At this time, Mojang's year-based 26.x versioning is not yet supported by PaperMC, Velocity, or the Via family of plugins. That means a 26.x client, including anyone running the 26.2-rc-2 snapshot, cannot connect to an SNT kingdom today. This is completely normal for the snapshot phase; the wider server ecosystem always takes some time to catch up after Mojang ships a new major version.

Once 26.2 reaches full release and the critical server-side projects (Paper, Velocity, Via) publish stable builds for it, our team will evaluate an upgrade path. We will always prioritise stability and world safety over speed. Until then, clients on 1.13 through 1.21.11 connect without any issues, so the vast majority of players are completely unaffected.

We will post a dedicated update notice the moment SNT kingdoms gain 26.x support. Stay tuned, and keep building! 🏰
