Minecraft Java Edition 26.2 Is Out, Here's What SNT Kingdom Players Need to Know

What Changed

On June 16, 2026, Mojang pushed Minecraft: Java Edition 26.2, the second full release under the year-based versioning scheme that replaced the old numeric format (like 1.21.x) starting in 2026. Mojang has not published a separate public changelog alongside the version manifest entry, which means this is likely a focused maintenance or stability release rather than a sweeping feature drop. As more details surface from the community, we will keep this post updated.

Why It Matters

Even a quiet release carries real-world weight for the Minecraft community:

Java and Bedrock

Release 26.2 is a Java Edition-only update. Bedrock Edition follows its own release track and has not received a corresponding update at this time. Players connecting through Bedrock clients (for example via Geyser crossplay) are unaffected by this specific release and can continue playing as normal.

For Server Owners

If you run your own Minecraft server infrastructure, here is the short version: do not rush to update. The key server-side tools, PaperMC, Velocity proxy, and the ViaVersion family of plugins, all need time to test and publish builds that are compatible with 26.2 before it is safe to migrate a live server. Updating the server binary before those tools are ready can break crossplay, wipe plugin functionality, or prevent older clients from connecting. Monitor the official PaperMC and ViaVersion release channels, and only update once the full stack is confirmed stable.

For Parents

Your child may log in and see a prompt to update their Minecraft client. That is completely normal, Mojang regularly releases updates, and 26.2 is an official, safe release from the game's developer. However, updating the client does not mean the server has updated too. If your child plays on a managed server (like an SNT Gaming kingdom), they should check with whoever runs the server before switching their game profile, so they don't accidentally lock themselves out of their favourite worlds. The good news: on SNT kingdoms, this is handled for you automatically, see the section below.

For Players

Exciting as new versions always are, here are a few tips to keep your game running smoothly:

Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?

Not yet, and your kingdom keeps running perfectly in the meantime. Here's why:

SNT Gaming kingdoms run on a carefully matched stack: Velocity proxy, Paper 1.21.11 backends, a Fabric 1.21.4 backend for the custom SharedLife mode, and Geyser + Floodgate for Bedrock crossplay. Client compatibility across versions 1.13 through 1.21.11 is handled by ViaVersion, ViaBackwards, and ViaRewind.

At this time, PaperMC, Velocity, and the Via suite have not yet released builds that support Mojang's year-based 26.x versions. Until those upstream projects ship stable 26.x-compatible releases, SNT kingdoms will continue running on the current 1.21.11 stack, which is fully stable, actively maintained, and supports all six game worlds: Survival, SharedLife, RandomLoot, Chaos, Spleef, and Rivals.

When the full stack, Paper, Velocity, Geyser, and Via, has been validated against 26.2, SNT Gaming will roll out the update automatically to all kingdoms with zero downtime required from you. You don't need to do anything. We'll post an announcement when 26.x client connections are officially open.
