Minecraft Java Edition 26.2 – Chaos Cubed Is Here!

What Changed

Minecraft Java Edition 26.2, officially dubbed Chaos Cubed, landed on 16 June 2026. It is a full release, not a snapshot, so it is available to everyone on the Java launcher right now. Here is a quick tour of everything that arrived:

Why It Matters

The Sulfur Cube is unlike any mob Minecraft has added before. Instead of having a single fixed behaviour, it shapeshifts based on the block it absorbs, there are ten distinct archetypes, ranging from a slow, sticky honeycomb ball to a high-speed ice slider to an actual rolling TNT bomb on a fuse. That single design decision opens up a huge sandbox of player-created games: football, pinball, bowling, team-vs-team artillery, and plenty of chaos that nobody has thought of yet.

The new building blocks are equally exciting. Cinnabar and sulfur give builders two warm-toned, cave-aesthetic palettes with a full complement of shapes, something that has been missing from the underground toolkit for a long time.

The Friends List is a quieter but meaningful addition: players can now manage their social connections directly inside the game rather than relying entirely on the launcher or third-party tools.

Java and Bedrock

This release is Java Edition only. There is no Bedrock Edition counterpart announced at the same time. Bedrock players should watch the official Minecraft channels for a matching update, the two editions typically align on major content drops, but timing can vary. The experimental Vulkan renderer is also Java-exclusive for now.

For Server Owners

If you run your own Java server, a few things are worth knowing before you update:

For Parents

This update is imaginative and mostly gentle, the biggest new mob is a physics toy that kids can wrestle, kick around like a football, or use as a building puzzle. That said, there are two things worth knowing:

Beyond those points, the Sulfur Caves are visually striking but no scarier than existing cave biomes. The new building blocks are purely creative tools, and the extra music tracks are a lovely background addition.

For Players

This is your new favourite mob, trust us. Here is the short version of what you can do with a Sulfur Cube:

Use Shears to pop the block back out and reset the Sulfur Cube to normal. Small Sulfur Cubes can be grown with Slime Balls, and you can carry a large one around in an empty Bucket, handy for bringing your favourite physics toy home.

Also: dig down and find a Sulfur Cave. The glowing cinnabar bands and bubbling pools look incredible, and the geysers will actually launch you into the air if you stand above a Potent Sulfur block over magma. Yes, on purpose.

Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?

No action is needed, and SNT kingdoms will not be updating to 26.2 right away. Our kingdoms run on Paper 1.21.11 backends with a Velocity proxy, and client connections are handled through ViaVersion, ViaBackwards, and ViaRewind, supporting profiles from version 1.13 all the way up to 1.21.11. At the time of writing, PaperMC, Velocity, and the Via family have not yet published stable, production-ready builds for Mojang's new year-based versioning (26.x), so jumping to 26.2 is not yet safe for a managed server.

This means that players connecting with a 26.2 client will not be able to join SNT kingdoms yet. For now, keep your Minecraft launcher set to version 1.21.11 to stay connected without any disruption. The moment the wider server ecosystem catches up and a safe migration path exists, we will test and upgrade every kingdom, and we will post an update here when that happens. You will not need to do anything; we handle it all for you.
