Minecraft Java 26.3 Pre-release 1: macOS Fullscreen Fix & Major Technical Overhaul
What Changed
The first pre-release for Java Edition 26.3 landed on 1 September 2026, marking the shift from active feature development into final polish and bug-fixing territory. Two kinds of changes arrived together: visible improvements for macOS players and a significant behind-the-scenes restructuring for data pack creators.
macOS Display Improvements
- Exclusive Fullscreen is back on macOS, a mode that was previously unavailable has been restored, giving Mac players a smoother, lower-latency display option.
- Menu/Dock Visibility control, a new option in Video Settings lets you decide whether macOS's Menu Bar and Dock peek into view when you nudge your mouse to the screen edge while in fullscreen.
- Cursor confinement, when Exclusive Fullscreen is active, your cursor stays locked inside the game window, preventing accidental clicks outside.
Technical & Data Pack Changes
- Data Pack version bumped to 119.0; Resource Pack version to 97.1.
- The old unified number provider registry has been split into separate integer and float registries (
minecraft:context_int_providerandminecraft:context_float_provider) to prevent precision errors when mixing whole-number and decimal calculations. - Several provider names have been renamed for clarity:
sum โ add, product โ mul, minimum โ min, maximum โ max, average โ avg. - Brand-new integer providers include abs, sub, mod, from_float, and refined versions of avg, min, max, conditional, and more.
- Two legacy burn-time multiplier providers have been removed and replaced with cleaner reduction-factor equivalents.
Why It Matters
Pre-releases signal that a version is nearly done. The development team is no longer adding features, they are tightening screws and squashing bugs. That means full release of 26.3 is just around the corner. For most players this update is invisible, but the data pack restructuring is one of those foundational changes that ripples through every server using custom loot tables, crafting tweaks, or gameplay modifiers. Getting it right now saves headaches later.
Java and Bedrock
This pre-release is Java Edition only. Bedrock Edition follows its own release schedule and is not affected by these changes. Bedrock players on SNT kingdoms continue to connect normally via Geyser+Floodgate, nothing here changes that experience.
For Server Owners
If you run your own vanilla or modded server and rely on custom data packs, this update demands attention. The number provider split is a breaking change: any data pack that used the old unified registry will need its provider types updated to the correct integer or float variant, and renamed operations (like sum โ add) will need to be rewritten. The good news is the change makes data packs more predictable, no more silent precision loss when integer and float math accidentally mixed. Start auditing your packs now so you're ready the moment 26.3 goes live.
For Parents
Nothing here changes how Minecraft looks or plays for your child day-to-day. The most noticeable update is the macOS fullscreen fix, which is great news if your household uses a Mac, the game will feel more polished and the cursor will stop wandering off-screen mid-session. The deeper technical changes happen entirely under the hood and are only relevant to people who build custom server content. In short: no action needed from you, and no new content to worry about explaining.
For Players
Playing on a Mac? You're going to appreciate this one. Exclusive Fullscreen is back, which means a crisper, more immersive game window, and your mouse won't escape to the desktop while you're in the middle of a creeper chase. Beyond that, this pre-release is mostly invisible to players, think of it as the developers giving 26.3 one final quality check before it ships. Hold tight, the full release is close!
Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?
Not yet, and here's why. SNT Gaming kingdoms run on Paper 1.21.11 backends with a Velocity proxy, and clients connect using profiles from version 1.13 all the way up to 1.21.11 via ViaVersion, ViaBackwards, and ViaRewind. The 26.x version series is not yet supported by PaperMC, Velocity, or the Via plugin family, because those projects haven't migrated to Mojang's newer year-based versioning scheme yet.
That means your kingdom is not affected by this pre-release at all, and there is nothing you need to do. The SNT team watches every snapshot and pre-release closely and will communicate clearly when 26.3 support becomes available on our stack. Until then, all six of your worlds, Survival, SharedLife, RandomLoot, Chaos, Spleef, and Rivals, keep running smoothly, and Bedrock players continue joining seamlessly through Geyser. We've got it handled. ๐ฎ
