Minecraft Beta & Preview 26.50.24, Explorer Maps, Concrete Stairs & Slabs, and More
What Changed
Minecraft Beta & Preview 26.50.24 is the final feature wave for Drop 3 of 2026, landing on Xbox, PlayStation, Windows, iOS, and Android. Two headline additions lead the charge, supported by a satisfying list of bug fixes and technical improvements.
Abandoned Camp Explorer Maps
Chests found inside Abandoned Camps now contain Explorer Maps pointing toward some of the most exciting destinations in the Overworld, Ancient Cities, Mineshafts, Desert Pyramids, Warm Ocean Ruins, and even other biome variants of Abandoned Camps themselves. Exploration just got a proper trail of breadcrumbs.
Concrete Stairs and Slabs
Builders, rejoice. Concrete Stairs and Concrete Slabs are now available in all 16 classic colors. Smooth, vibrant, and finally a full set, your colorful builds can now have matching edges and half-steps without resorting to workarounds.
Cushion Fixes
The Cushion block received a thorough round of polish:
- Players no longer sink into the ground when a Cushion's supporting block disappears beneath them.
- Cushions now break cleanly when the block below is replaced by liquid.
- Named Cushions correctly drop their named item when broken.
- The Name Tag is now visibly displayed on placed Cushions.
- Cushions pop free as items when pushed by moving blocks (pistons, etc.).
- Breaking particles and sounds now play when the supporting block is destroyed.
Other Highlights
- Poplar Leaves can now be smelted into Leaf Litter, a handy use for all that foliage.
- The Straw Bed camera position, texture, and shiny-pixel glitches are all corrected.
- Sulfur Spikes and Pointed Dripstone growth speeds are restored after an accidental 25ร speed boost in a previous build.
- The Player Map icon now shows your rotation even when you wander outside the map's edges.
- Explorer Maps sport brand-new item icons that clearly telegraph their destination.
- A critical bug where players and mobs could spawn at coordinates (0, 0, 0) and lose their entire inventory on world reload has been fixed.
- TNT and Stonecutters can once again be quick-crafted from the Recipe Book.
- Several crash fixes, including one on Android during network address retrieval and another triggered by certain particle commands.
Why It Matters
This beta marks the feature lock for Drop 3, meaning what you see here is essentially what ships in the full release. The Explorer Map addition transforms Abandoned Camps from a one-time loot stop into a genuine navigation hub, nudging players toward structures they might never have found otherwise. Concrete Stairs and Slabs close a long-standing creative gap, and the Cushion fixes show Mojang is actively polishing the newer furniture-style blocks before the full drop lands.
Java and Bedrock
This update is a Bedrock-only beta and preview build. Java Edition has its own separate snapshot track. However, many of the design choices here, like the Explorer Map destinations and the concrete block variants, are part of the broader Drop 3 roadmap that will eventually align across both editions. Java players should watch their own snapshot channel for matching features.
For Server Owners
If you run a Bedrock-compatible server with Geyser or a dedicated Bedrock instance, note that the structure file format has been upgraded to version 2. The new format uses NBT IntArrayTags instead of individual per-block ListTags, cutting save/load times and shrinking structure files by roughly 50% when the extra block layer is empty. Version 1 structures still load fine and are silently upgraded on next save, so no manual migration is needed, but it's worth knowing your .mcstructure files will change format after this release. Also worth flagging: the Entity.teleport API now throws an error if passengers are aboard during a cross-dimension teleport, so any custom add-ons using that call will need a dismount step added first.
For Parents
The most family-relevant fix in this build is the inventory loss bug at (0, 0, 0), a nasty issue where a world reload could strip a player of everything they were carrying. That's now resolved, which means less heartbreak for younger players who've spent hours gathering gear. The Explorer Maps in Abandoned Camps are also a wonderful addition for kids who love structured goals: finding a camp and following its map to a hidden Ancient City turns a sandbox session into a mini-adventure with a clear destination. Concrete Stairs and Slabs in 16 colors will delight any young builder who's been frustrated by the color options available for detailed builds.
For Players
Here's the exciting bit, next time you stumble across an Abandoned Camp, crack open every chest. You might pull out a map leading straight to an Ancient City deep underground or a desert pyramid glittering on the horizon. Pair that with the new concrete stairs and slabs in every color, and Drop 3 is shaping up to be a massive win for both explorers and builders. Don't forget: Poplar Leaves โ smelt โ Leaf Litter is now a thing, so your forest harvests have even more value.
Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?
No action required, and SNT kingdoms cannot connect to version 26.x clients yet. Our kingdoms run on Paper 1.21.11 backends behind a Velocity proxy, with Geyser + Floodgate handling Bedrock crossplay. The PaperMC, Velocity, and ViaVersion ecosystems have not yet migrated to Mojang's new year-based versioning scheme, which means Minecraft 26.x clients (both Java and Bedrock) are not currently supported on SNT kingdoms. This beta is a preview build in any case, it is not stable for production use. When Drop 3 officially releases and the supporting server software catches up, we'll handle every kingdom update automatically as part of our fully managed service. You don't need to do a thing; we'll let you know when 26.x support arrives.
