Minecraft Bedrock 26.44 Hotfix: Every Fix Explained
What Changed
On 14 August 2026, Mojang began rolling out Bedrock Edition 26.44, a hotfix targeting issues discovered shortly after the previous major update. Because each platform (iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, Windows) must go through its own approval process, it may appear on your device slightly later than others. The fixes cover six distinct areas:
- Commands: Non-operator players could unintentionally expand a command's target to include themselves when using chat-style commands like
/tell. That self-selection loophole is now closed. - Graphical: Turning on Education Edition features inside a world was accidentally switching off the stunning Vibrant Visuals renderer. Both can now coexist happily.
- Input: On Android, tapping the hardware Back button was sending the whole game to the background rather than performing the expected in-game back action (closing a menu, stepping out of a screen, etc.).
- Items: A slightly charged Bow, one that hadn't been pulled back all the way, could fire an arrow that somehow looped back and hit the shooter. That self-inflicted damage is gone.
- Stability: Certain add-on content combinations could unexpectedly disconnect players while a world was still loading. That connection drop is now fixed.
- User Interface: In Creative mode with Pocket UI active, Shift-clicking an item was quietly deleting it instead of moving it to a free inventory slot. Items now quick-move correctly.
- Technical, Dimensions: Custom dimension JSON files that defined
minecraft:dimension_boundsand related values were having those values silently ignored. They are now read and applied as intended.
Why It Matters
Hotfixes like this one are small in scope but big in everyday impact. The Creative inventory deletion bug was particularly painful for builders who rely on Pocket UI, one misplaced Shift-click could erase a hard-to-find item with no warning. The arrow self-hit was frustrating in PvP and survival alike, punishing players for simply not fully charging their shot. And the Education + Vibrant Visuals conflict meant that any classroom or family server using Education features was stuck with a noticeably worse-looking game. All three are now resolved.
Java and Bedrock
This release is Bedrock-only, Java Edition is unaffected and receives no corresponding update today. If you play primarily on Java (PC with the standard launcher), everything on your end remains the same. The fixes here specifically target Bedrock's engine, input handling, and UI layer, none of which are shared with Java.
For Server Owners
If you run a Bedrock-compatible server that accepts 26.x clients, you'll want to note the dimension JSON fix, any custom dimensions whose bounds or properties were previously being silently ignored will now actually enforce those values. Double-check that your dimension configuration files produce the intended behaviour after updating. The command self-selection change is also worth communicating to your moderation team: non-operator players can no longer accidentally include themselves in certain command targets, which slightly tightens your permission model without any extra configuration on your part.
For Parents
The two fixes most relevant to families are the Android Back button correction and the Creative item deletion patch. If your child plays on an Android phone or tablet, the Back button will now behave predictably, no more accidentally minimising the game mid-session. And if they love building in Creative mode on a touch device, their items are finally safe from accidental Shift-click deletion. Both fixes arrive automatically through your platform's app store; no manual downloads are needed.
For Players
Here are the wins you'll feel most directly:
- ๐น Charge your Bow just a little? You won't take damage from your own arrow anymore.
- ๐ฆ Shift-clicking in Creative with Pocket UI now moves items, it no longer makes them vanish.
- ๐ฑ Android players: the Back button is back to doing what it should.
- โจ Education worlds now keep Vibrant Visuals switched on, so everything looks as gorgeous as it should.
The update will show up automatically, just keep an eye on your platform's store or update notifications.
Do SNT Kingdoms Need an Update?
No action is required, and SNT Gaming kingdoms are not yet compatible with Bedrock 26.x clients, this applies to 26.44 just as it did to earlier 26.x releases. Our kingdoms run a Paper 1.21.11 / Velocity backend stack with Geyser + Floodgate for Bedrock crossplay, but PaperMC, Velocity, and the Via ecosystem have not yet migrated to Mojang's year-based versioning scheme. Until that upstream support lands, Bedrock players on 26.x will need to connect using an older supported client version, or wait for the compatibility update to arrive. We're monitoring the situation closely and will announce the moment 26.x support is ready. In the meantime, all six of your kingdom's worlds, Survival, SharedLife, RandomLoot, Chaos, Spleef, and Rivals, continue running smoothly for all currently supported clients.
